My expectations for this trip were unknown. I wasn’t sure if we were going to hate each other being the car for a week straight, be forced to skip over seeing certain attractions due the polar vortex that took shape on this particular week, or see so many things I wouldn’t be able to remember everything I saw.
I thought day one was exciting. It only got better from there. Days two and three were by far the most eye opening on the trip. I would love to start by sharing day twos adventures today.
Day two was spent in northern Arizona. Page, Arizona to be exact. Honestly, I had never heard to page before this trip. So once again to went to social media to do my research and quickly found that Page was home to a few pretty popular attractions had seen several times in photographs.
As we drove towards Page, we came across Glen Canyon Dam, a portion of Lake Powell. This was my first taste of dams, canyons, and these beautiful, magnificent rocks. I was completely blown away by the Arch Gravity Dam and bridge that overlooked the water. We obviously took in the sites and all the history on how the Glen Canyon Dam tried to feature itself after the famous Hoover Dam, which was one of the stops we just didn’t make it to, but originally had on our lists.
From Glen Canyon we headed into the heart of Page and took the most amazing tour of Antelope Canyon. Let me tell you, this was one of the highs of the trip, Okay, I made that sound like this was the peak, but this was the first of the many. I had seen Antelope Canyon in pictures and vlogs thanks to a beauty influencer trip that took place there last summer. I saw this videos and instagrams and couldn’t believe that something this gorgeous and cool actually belonged in a country I called home. I come to find out I had that exact thought over and over and over again too.
We took a tour hosted by Antelope Slot Canyon tours – and let me tell you, it was a 10 out of 10. Our tour guide took us room by room and patiently and generously took photos of each group in the tour. He told us early in the tour photography was his hobby and that he knew how the lighting worked in the canyon, and boy did he live up to the hype. He patiently took his time and made sure he got the shots from each room for each group! He even took a few solo shots of those who wanted them. His guidance and knowledge of the tour is what really made it the most special. It was so cool to learn how these canyons were formed and even performed a little science experiment for us, first hand, to show us how these canyons were basically formed.
Yall, I know this sounds cheesy, but I couldn’t help but tear up a few times on this tour. Like I said earlier, I had never seen anything like this and the beauty just overtook my emotions. The happiness that flooded inside my heart was overwhelming. And let me tell you, I thought this was the most beautiful thing I had every seen, until the next stop.
Horseshoe Bend is a horseshoe shaped meandered like piece of the Colorado River right down the street from Page. You take a mini 1.5 mile round trip trail off the highway to see this beautiful landmark. We showed up just as the sun was about to set, and let me tell you, the emotions were flowing. The mini hike took you right up to the cliff side and we sat and took in the beauty that was below us. Another place you can find loads and loads of photos on social media.
Anyways, I can’t even begin to tell you how beautiful this place was. You basically have to see it yourself to actually grasp the type of scenery I’m talking about. STUNNING!!!!!
As the sun set, we took a bunch of family photos and really just appreciated life and these amazing moments together as a family. If you are ever in the Northern Arizona area, please do yourself a favor and make this a stop on your route. You wont be sorry!
And that’s when I tell myself we peaked on day two. Yeah, RIGHT!
