Not the Girl You Marry – Book Review

I recently listened to Not the Girl You Marry by Andie J. Christopher on audiobook and really wish I had read it instead of listening.

I have been on somewhat of a contemporary romance kick and had been looking forward to reading this book, especially since it was dubbed a remake of How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days. I mean, How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days but with the rolls reversed? What’s not to love?

We follow the story of Jack & Hannah and how they both use each other to further their careers. Did I mention that their original plans backfire and they actually end up in love? It’s actually a cute little story and Jack and Hannah are both very likeable characters.  Jack being the typical boy next door type with a good head on his shoulders and Hannah being the steamy little party girl that is continuously let down by love. They quickly become a couple worth rooting for even thought you know the premises a head of time.

To be honest, this audiobook made me realize how uncomfortable listening to the steamy parts make me. I wish I had read this book over listening. I love my audiobooks but have never listened to one with detailed romantic scenes. My usual go to audible picks are normally cozy mysteries and I love every bit of the character development in an audio form. I now realize that contemporary romance on audio just isn’t for me.

I gave this book THREE stars mainly because of the uncomfortable feeling I had, at times, while listening. It might have been at four-star read if I had just read it.
