Treehouse Living at Airydale Retreat

Calling all East Coasters and road trip lovers; If you’re looking for a summer time treat, I have the perfect getaway for you. Airydale Retreat, tucked away in the back country of central Pennsylvania, lives three cozy and private glamping sites.

Each glamp site is individually designed and crafted by the owner and land proprietor, Matt. Matt’s craftsmanship and artistic view really took flight during his design and build process. These three sites live on a seven acre backdrop filled with the most perfect woodsy vibe.

Towhee Glampsite

Airydale Retreat opened their doors in 2019, featuring one very unique 14’x16′ canvas tent. Inside the tent is a comfortable bed, space for lounging, and all the basic necessities you would need while camping. The best part is, the front porch the leads you into the tent.

Try and picture it now; reclined on the front porch on a euphoric woody compound with fresh, french-pressed coffee in hand as the sun rises. SIGN ME UP!

Secondly, picture yourself sitting around the fire pit as the sun sets, while yummy food cooks over the wood burning fire. What could possibly be better?

Phoebe Glampsite

Airydale Retreat recently added two more glampsites filled with amenities, along with entertainment space and room for exploration.

Their second glampsite consists of a Bell Tent/Yurt-style canvas wrapping, customized for couples looking to get away for the weekend.

If you’re up for a snuggly night in the woods, without the harsh elements and uncomfortable sleeping bag situation, the Phoebe Glampsite is for you!

Cardinal Glampsite

Any interest in bringing the kids along? Airydale Retreat now features one of the coolest and most unique glampsites I’ve ever seen. This tree-house-style homestead features a large open space of canvas and wood, filled with a queen sized bed, bunk beds for the kiddos, and cooking supplies for any kind of campfire meal. In addition, this glampsite has a breathtaking porch that features an overlook of the entire property. Have I mentioned the giant slide that delivers you, safely, right to the dining area and fire pit? Let me tell you, this baby got tons of use. Who says you have to be a kid to enjoy a good slide to dinner?

Airydale Retreat, was kind enough to gift us a free stay to come and soak in the atmosphere and be one of the first few visitors of the Cardinal Glampsite.

Boy, was this worth the two hour drive, through Amish country back roads.

Two hours turned into a lot longer of a drive thanks to all of the horse and buggies we were stuck behind every few miles. It’s always interesting to learn about other cultures and see how they live. Education and learning opportunities are always present during a good road trip.

Local Outdoor Adventure Spots

Before we stepped foot onto the Airydale Retreat grounds, we noticed the passing of several local state parks. Being the adventure junkies we are, we pulled the car aside, unplanned, and went on our own little adventure of Greenwood Furnace State Park located in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania.

Who would have known that the fun would start before we even got to the glampsite?

Thanks to the AllTrails app, exploration at the drop of a dime is always on our to-do lists.

Like I mentioned earlier, we stumbled across Green Furnace State Park and spent the next several hours exploring their almost five-hundred acre forest. These swoon-worthy trails took us on one heck of an adventure throughout the central Pennsylvania mountains.

Along with visiting the local state park, we also ventured to the Thousand Steps Trail, which came highly recommended from the internet world. When I say 1000 steps, I literally mean 1000 steps. Your girl did NOT take 1000 steps, but effort was made. Luckily, my girl gang was able to make it to the top. In conclusion, they shot a few dreamy pictures that gave me the perspective as if I was there myself.

From there, Raystown Lake is just a short drive away for all your water-lover needs. If water sports are on your 2020 Summer Bucket List, Raystown Lake is your one stop shop. They offer all types of rentals; kayaks, wave runners, motor boats, etc.

Amish Markets & Farm Stands

Have I mentioned the Amish markets yet? Calling all my sweet tooth pals! Right up the road from the glamping retreat are rows and rows of stands. You can swing by to pick up the most delicious homemade sweet treats and freshly picked produce. You all know I love a good farm stand.

In conclusion, central Pennsylvania did NOT disappoint. My adventurous soul enjoyed every moment spend at Airydale Retreat and exploring the adjacent towns, lakes, and state parks.

It’s safe to say summer rentals are few and far between, so go make those fall reservations NOW! You won’t want to miss the colorful leaves blowing in the wind while you sip hot cocoa from the front porch of your glampsite. I can picture it now; marshmallows overflowing the mug, cozy blankets, and my Staheekum slippers on deck! SWOON!!!!!
